Work: Although my interests are actually in current Middle East history and
politics, my present position has generated an interest in locating and/or
developing computer-assisted instructional materials for Arabic language,
particularly interactive digitized video lessons. My teaching focus at West
Point is in basic and intermediate MSA, and military readings.
My past research has focused on Lebanon, and particularly U.S. military
involvement(security assistance) and intervention over the past three decades.
I have interests in terrorism, conflict resolution, peacekeeping, humanitarian
assistance and coalition warfare. I served as a trainer with the Lebanese
Army in 1983 and I also commanded a training mission in Kuwait in 1994 and I
worked with Arab and Islamic military units in Somalia in 1993 while commanding
the US Army Special Forces detachment attached to the UN command
(March-September).
I completed my undergraduate work at West Point and a Masters program in
Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University. I attended an Egyptian military
logistics course in Cairo in 1992.
