I am currently employed as a research associate at the University
of Wisconsin, in the department of molecular virology. My research involves
he identification and characterization of host factors necessary, or
involved in viral RNA replication. The work is being done using mutagenesis
and cloning techniques in yeast, where the plant virus of interest (Brome
Mosaic Virus) has been shown to replicate.
My Ph.D. degree in genetics was obtained at the University of
California in Davis, in the Department of Plant Pathology. My thesis work
involved the elucidation of the function(s) of the movement-associated
proteins of geminiviruses. These viruses are very important economically in
tropical/subtropical areas of the world, including Lebanon where they can
inflict 100% losses on some winter tomato cash crops. I also have a M.Sc.
degree in sciences from Rutgers university, where I worked on the genetics
and inheritance of ADH genes in the octoploid strawberries, and their
effect on flavor development in these plants. My B.Sc. degree is in
Agriculture, and was obtained at the American University of Beirut (AUB)
where I also obtained a practical degree of Ingenieur Agricole.
My research interests are wide but are centered around plants.
Breeding and genetic engineering of horticultural plants to produce disease
resistant plants, and new plant varieties is my main interest. I am also
interested in teaching.

I grew up and was educated in Lebanon, where I lived most of my
life, until graduation from the American University of Beirut (AUB). I
went to the Grand Lycee for my first few years of schooling, and then
moved to the International College (IC) for middle and high school.
