REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT / INVOLUNTARY MIGRATION
I am interested in issues of cultural and social change among
refugee communities from a variety of origins. I have written papers on
cultural dynamics and social organization among communities resettled not
only as the result of war but also due to infrastructural development
projects, particularly hydro-electiric projects.

ETHNIC IDENTITY
I am researching the relationship between exile and ethnic
identtity particularly in the context of ethnic community organization
and the brokerage of issues of cultural reproduction and political
struggle. I also interested in how such issues are represented through
popular media such as newspapers, television, radio, and particularly
music (Keyword: ETHNOMUSICOLOGY)

KURDISH ISSUES
My current research involves collaborative work with a local
Kurdish community to understand the dynamics of ethnic community
formation and the representation, articulation, and brokerage of their
cultural and political concerns in the context of resettlement. I am also
more generally interested in the cultural history of the Kurdish people.
