My Middle and Near East interests are general, of course, but my
own specialization is the Francophone literature of the Maghrib. I have
been working in this field since 1968-1969 when I taught at the University
of Algiers. My current research involves code-mixing and biculturalism in
the French-language writing of Maghribi authors like Mohammed Dib, Tahar
Ben Jelloun, Abdelwahab Meddeb, and Abdelkebir Khatibi.
Key words: Maghrib (Maghreb), Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia,
Francophone, Literature, Code-mixing, Biculturalism.
