Anthropology of the Arab World and Middle East; Nomadic pastoralism; ritual
and social organization; kinship, family, and household structure; Islam and
local belief systems; gender; Arabic dialects and cultural identity.  Field
experience in Sudan, Jordan, and Egypt.  I teach course on Peoples and
Cultures of the Middle East and the Anthropology of International Business
(which has some Middle East content).  I am currently Secretary of the
Middle East Section of the American Anthropological Association.
