Description of work:
My teaching focuses on the religious traditions of Southern Asia
and Southeast Asia, with particular attention to the Buddhist
traditions of Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia. Research interests include:
Buddhism and/under colonialism; problems of
modernity/modernization/multiple modernities; monasticism/monastic institutions;
Buddhist education; Buddhist textual practice (including
print use); commentarial texts and preaching guides; Buddhist literature
in Sinhala and Pali.
