My current research centers on gay and lesbian identities among South
Asians in North America within the contexts of larger social and political
issues of diaspora and the global reach of gay, lesbian and queer
movements .  I previously conducted research with members of a Protestant
church in Tamil Nadu, focusing on identity, history and 'minority' status. 
My earlier research centered on social structural issues, especially
caste, kinship and marriage, and household and domestic organization, in
rural Tamil Nadu.
