Description of work:

Research: Class and Market in Bangladesh - study of social and regional
differences in the operation of rural markets for grain and their relation
to stratification and change in the rural population. 

River/water development - recent book 'Sharing the Ganges: the politics and 
technology of river development' Sage, New Delhi; University Press, Dhaka; 
1995. 

Teaching: General courses on the political economy of development at
Stanford and at University of California Berkeley. Also: Rural
Industrialization, Peasant Society: Economy and Change, Economic
Geography.
