description of work:

Research interest in syntax of South Asian languages, especially Hindi
and Urdu from the point of view of (a) Universal Grammar and challenges
to current theories, and (b) areal and genetic relationships to other
languages of South Asia. I've written a number of publications and
conference papers on aspects of Hindi-Urdu: reflexives, dative
experiencers, agreement, finite clauses, wh- in situ (relatives,
questions). I'm currently writing an overview of the binding of
reflexives and pronouns in Hindi, and working on a lexical study of Hindi
predicates (case, theta marking, complement type). I continue a study of
finite clauses, including the relative clause types.
