Description of work:
Alicia is currently in the process of constructing a vision of her
dissertation fieldwork in Sanganer, India. She hopes to work with artisans
who block-print cloth. She is interested in learning about traditional
work practices and identity construction in a nationalist context. Alicia
received her BA in communications at Lewis and Clark College, worked for
10 years as a print and broadcast journalist where she won numerous awards
for her writing and photography, and most recently received her MA in
anthropology and women's studies at Brandeis University. She spent the
summer in Udaipur, India studying Hindi and carrying out preliminary
fieldwork, and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in anthropology at Syracuse
thanks to a Foreign Language and Area Studies Grant through the South Asia
Center.
