description of work:
I teach a multicultural literature course for undergraduates which
includes a number of Asian pieces, like The Ramayana and the poetry of
Tagore. In 1994 I participated in an institute on India that was sponsored
by The East West Center; the following summer I took part in the field
study to India that resulted from that Institute. On my campus I function
as a resource person for Asian studies. I have developed courses in Asian
philosophy and Asian literature. I give programs on Hinduism and Buddhism,
as well as contemporary literature in translation.
