Description of work:  
having worked in humanitarian aid work in the conflict zone of Sri Lanka 
since September 2000, I developed an interest in how ordinary civilians 
deal with violent conflict. A case that I came across, and which became 
the subject of my current PhD research (2003-2007), is of farmers of 
different ethnicity co-operating on irrigation water management, despite 
the fact that they were in the middle of a violent ethnic conflict that 
affected everyone of them directly.
