Description of work:
I obtained the PhD in Political Science from Tulane University, New
Orleans, USA, in 1996, with concentrations in international relations and
comparative politics, and area specializations in Asian and Latin American
studies.
In the comparative politics field, I have taught several courses such as
Political Development, Civil-Military Relations, Political Ideologies,
Government and Politics in Asia, Latin American Governments, Politics of
Nationalism, and Ethnic Politics and Conflict. In the international
relations field, I have taught courses such as International Political
Economy, Introduction to International Relations/Global Politics,
International Relations Theory, International Security, International Law
and Organization, Conflict Analysis and Resolution, and Foreign Policy
Analysis. At Victoria University, I teach two postgraduate courses,
Seminar in Ethnic Conflict and International Relations in South Asia, and
one undergraduate course, The Politics of Nationalism.
I am particularly interested in theoretically grounded research with strong
policy implications in the following areas: nationalism, ethnic conflict,
and ethnic conflict management; foreign policy analysis and security
studies; political development, political change, and human rights issues;
and peace and conflict studies. So far, I have published two books and
several journal articles, book chapters, and working papers. My current
research projects focus on ethno-secessionist conflicts and the problems of
security in the Asian region. At present I am working on a book length
manuscript dealing with secessionist politics in India. I am also
co-authoring another book on ethnicity and nation-building in South Asia. I
am also co-editing a volume entitled "Ethnic Conflict and Secessionism in
Asia: Causes, Dynamics, and Solutions." I am also working on several
research papers.
Keywords: International Relations, Comparative Politics, Ethnic Politics,
South Asia.
