My discipline by training is cultural anthropology but I am located in a
department of religion where I teach Hinduism at several levels as well as
comparative religion and theories of religion.

Research areas, in descending specificity:
North India, Rajasthan, Ajmer and Bhilwara districts;

Research interests:
popular religion, oral traditions, gender, environment, children;

Current project is on oral histories of environmental, political, social,
religious, and moral transformations over the past 50 years in Sawar and
the twenty-seven surrounding villages; also working on myths and folklore
about grain; and on women's perceptions of the goddess in a series of
festivals from Holi to Gangaur.
