I am a student of Hinduism, and specialize in medieval and modern bhakti
traditions, particularly those of Braj Vaisnavism. I have interests in
ritual, temple worship, pilgrimage, and aesthetic/dramatic theory. I work
in Sanskrit, Hindi (Braj Bhasa), and Bengali. I am currently translating
the Bhaktirasamrtasindhu of Rupa Gosvamin. I am also engaged in a study
of colonialism, Orientalism, and dominant Western representations of
Hinduism. This latter work is a historical study that seeks to understand
the dynamics of Western constructions of Hinduism to shift scholarly
attention to include those dimensions of Hindu traditions that have been
overlooked or rejected. I have an overall interest in exploring what
contributions the study of Hinduism has to make to the study of religion.
