Regional interest:  the Braj area, and north India more generally

Themes of research:  Braj Bhasa literature, especially Surdas; bhakti 
literature and practice generally, especially in North India; 
hagiography; gender issues, including those relating to Hindu 
goddesses; religion in modern India, including religious nationalism.

Other involvements:  the new Dharam Hinduja Indic Research Center at
Columbia, the University Seminar on Indology, the University Seminar on
Tradition and Change in South and Southeast Asia.
