DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
My main research areas are history of religions and the religions of South
Asia. I work in Sanskrit and Tamil texts. My primary interest is in
South Asian epic traditions: the classical Sanskrit epics as well as
regional oral vernacular folk epics. I have also done work in Vedic
studies. I am interested also in the anthropology of South Asia, and in
colonial and post-colonial studies bearing on South Asian religions. My
main work is most consistently, however, on the Mahabharata.
