Description of work:
I am an art historian specializing in the Buddhist and Hindu art of India.
Currently, I am working on a book on the early Buddhist art of India,
particularly with regard to the question of the so-called aniconic
imagery. I have done considerable work on the Pala period art of eastern
India and Bangladesh (the regions of Bihar, West Bengal, and Bangladesh).
Currently, I am working on two projects involving the art of Nepal. One
is concerned with relationships between Nepal and Pala India. The other
focusses on ancient metalworking traditions of the Kathmandu Valley. My
husband, John C. Huntington, and I have amassed a large photographic
archive of Buddhist and related art throughout Asia consisting of nearly
300,000 original photographs. These are currently being accessioned and
catalogued through The Ohio State University and are being made available
for scholarly use by individuals throughout the world.
