Description of work:
Served as Professor (Animal Physiology) at the Faculty of Agricultural
Sciences, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, B.C. Canada since
1967. Continuing as Professor Emeritus in the same University after
retirement. Extracurricular interests include Carnatic Music and (Tamil)
Thamizh Literature. Author of a recently published book entitled:
"Thamizh Literature Through The Ages - A Socio-Cultural Perspective".
Always intrigued how Thamizh has flourished over several millenniums
retaining many of its grammatical formats and literary niceties despite
changing political and social circumstances in the entire subcontinent.
Because Thamizh has been influenced to the least by Sanskrit, it is hoped
that a critical study of its literary works would shed light on the social
habits, religious practices and cultural characteristics of the people of
Dravidian origin. Exchange of views by scholars in different disciplines
is necessary to advance our knowledge of the Anthropological and
Sociological features of these ancient people.
