Description of work:
My research has focused on the symbolic, morphological, and iconological
structures of early Indian architecture, the temple, and of the buildings
of early Islam in South Asia. I teach all of the art of South Asia and
have written on sculpture, iconography, and ethnography as well as
architecture. I also recently organised an exhibition and catalogue
entitled "Cooking for the Gods: The Art of Home Ritual in Bengal" for the
Newark Museum. I currently am doing field research in western India
(particularly Gujarat and Rajasthan) and also on temples along the Indus
River in the Panjab and North West Frontier Provinces of Pakistan.
