Educational Qualification:
Ph.D (Anthropology) 1993, Madras University

Doctoral thesis:
Culture, Population and Resources: A Study of Malaiali of Javadhi Hills

Malaiali are a forest dwelling agricultural community. The
interlinkages between culture, environment and demographic
aspects (fertility, mortality, migration and population
characteristics) were the basic foci of the study.

After my Ph.D, I worked in a CSIR (India) sponsored project on `Indigenous
Navigation Traditions of Indian Ocean' as Research Associate.

Since October 1994, I am involved in development-related activities and
have undertaken a number of assignments, specifically related to forest
and tribals, costal zone management, indigenous knowledge systems, and
primary health care in India.
