Description of work:

Research interests in 19th century Hindi, Urdu and Bengali literatures.
Book manuscript on Bharatendu Hariscandra's poetry.  Newer research on
Michael Madhusudan Datta, Tagore family,  et. al.  Indigenous South Asian
critical traditions and movements; interregional comparative literature.
Translations from modern Urdu, Hindi and Bengali fiction and poetry.
Teaching:  all levels of Hindi-Urdu from elementary to advanced and
graduate reading courses in Hindi and Bengali; also, content courses on
South Asian literatures and civilization.
