Description of work:
Giorgio Shani is Associate Professor in the College and Graduate School of 
International Relations, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto, Japan where he 
teaches North-South Relations and South Asian studies at graduate level. 
He holds a doctorate in Political and International Studies from the 
School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, and 
is author of Sikh Nationalism and Identity in a Global Age (Routledge 
2007) as well as editor (with Makoto Sato and Mustapha Kamal Pasha) of 
Protecting Human Security in a Post 9/11 World (Palgrave 2007). Dr Shani 
has also published widely in internationally-refereed journals including 
South Asia Research, Studies in Ethnicity and Nationalism, Sikh 
Formations, The Cambridge Review of International Affairs and 
International Studies Review. His current research focuses on 
globalization, religion and human in/security in South Asia and its 
diasporas.
