Teaching:
Since I hold Bachelors' and Masters' degrees in Philosophy and Theology,
and a Bachelor's Master's and Doctorate (Harvard) in Sanskrit, I teach my
South Asia Courses from a cross-cultural point of view, in India and
abroad. I can also make references to original sources not only in
Sanskrit and Pali, but also in Marathi, Hindi, and Gujarati texts, since I
know these languages.
Following are the titles of the South Asia courses I have been teaching in
India and abroad at the Bachelor's as well as Master's levels:
Introduction to Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism, Bhagavad-Gita, Bhagavata
Purana, The Schools of Vedanta, Vaishnavism, Historical Survey of the
Development of Indian Philosophy (Early Hindu Thought and the six
Darshanas), Indian Religious Symbols, Pilgrimage in Indian Traditions, The
Way of Wisdom, The Way of Love, Buddhism in India and Asia, Introduction
to Theology: Indian point of view, Inter-religious Dialogue.
Research Interests:
Krishnaism, the Harivamsha, Vishnu Purana and Bhagavata Puranas and
Commentaries on these texts, Shankara and Vaishnava Vedanta, Buddhist Pali
texts, Comparison between Hinduism and Christianity, Comparison between
Buddhism and Christianity.
Current and Future Projects:
The Justification of Morally Embarrassing Episodes in the Life of Krishna
by texts and their commentaries, Hindu Parallels to the Eucharist, Avatara
and Incarnation, Hindu and Christian Devotion, Non-violence according to
Mahatma Gandhi.
