I teach South Asian politics at Harvard University.  My books
are as follows: Democracy, Development and the Countryside: Urban-Rural
Struggles in India, Cambridge University Press, forthcoming in February
1995; Beyond Urban Bias (an edited volume), London: Frank Cass Press,
1993.  I am currently working on Hindu-Muslim relations in India, and
have already published articles on the subject in Daedalus, and India
