Media Collections
- Collections
- The purpose of the media collection is to support Columbia
University instruction and research. Opened in January 1997,
the initial concentration is on classic, documentary, and
performing arts films. All titles in the collection are
cataloged in CLIO, the Libraries' online computer catalog.
The formats are primarily videorecordings, laserdiscs and
digital versatile discs (DVD). We welcome inquiries and
suggestions about media resources. To recommend purchase of a
title for the collection, please contact Nancy E. Friedland,
Media Services and Film Studies Librarian, 206 Butler Library,
854-7402, or address email to nef4@columbia.edu.
- Loans
- Butler Media
Items with the catalog location Butler-Media are
loaned to persons with current borrowing privileges issued by
Columbia or one of its affiliates-Barnard, Teacher College and
Union Theological Seminary. The loan period is for the current
day or over night due one hour after opening. A borrower may
have no more than two media items from the collection at one
time.
Butler Media Res
Items with the location Butler-Media-Res also appear
in the CLIO catalog. These items circulate only by arrangement
to faculty or instructors for class screenings. Faculty should
submit requests for Butler-Media-Res items one week in
advance to nef4@columbia.edu.
- Returns
- There are no renewals. Please hand the videorecording,
laserdisc or DVD title to a library attendant at the Butler
Reserves circulation desk from which it was borrowed. Returns
are not accepted at the Butler circulation desk or other
Columbia libraries. Do not use book returns inside or outside
the library because the item could be damaged. The borrower is
liable for damage to the item until it is returned.
- Loss
- Report the loss of an item immediately. This will prevent a
fine or, if the item is already overdue, will stop the fine
from growing larger. You will be billed for the replacement
cost and the associated library processing charges.
- Fines
- Overdue charges are $7 per day.
- Copyright
- U.S. Copyright Law applies.
