Library of Congress American Memory Project--Early Motion Pictures
Part of the American Memory Project, Early Motion Pictures 1897 - 1916 produced by the Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division, Library of Congress.
Library of Congress Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division
Division responsible for the acquisition, cataloging and preservation of the motion picture and television collections notably paper print collection, copyright collection and AFI collection.
MOMA
Founded in 1935, the collection includes more than 14,000 films and four million film stills; the strongest international film collection in the United States, it incorporates all periods and genres. Among the holdings are original negatives of the Biograph and Edison companies, and the world's largest collection of D.W. Griffith films. Video collection, begun in 1970, includes some 800 works dating from the 1960s to the present, ranging from educational pieces and broadcast documentaries to works by the artists whose primary medium is video.
National Archives and Records Administration
Collection dates 1894 to present and includes 35,000 sound recordings, 4.5 million photographic items, 150,000 reels of motion picture film and 20,000+ videotapes, including public domain motion pictures created by more than 75 Federal agencies.
National Film Preservation Board
Board serves as a public advisory group to the Librarian of Congress with representatives from the film industry, archives, scholars, filmmakers and others. The Board works to ensure the survival, conservation and increased public availability of America's film heritage. Includes list of films selected for the National Film Registry.
National Film Preservation Foundation
A non-profit organization created by the U.S. Congress to save America's film heritage by supporting preservation activities nationwide.
Pacific Film Archives
The Pacific Film Archive (PFA) is an internationally recognized center for the exhibition and study of cinema. Collection more than 7,000 titles, with areas of concentration in Soviet silent and Eastern European cinema, international animation, American experimental cinema, video art of the '70s, and the largest collection of Japanese cinema outside of Japan.
