Walking Directions to Butler Reference
Butler Reference Dept. is located on the third floor of Butler
Library (Rooms 301 and 310).
If you are coming from the West 116th Street Subway Station or
the 104 bus stop, enter the College Walk gate at W 116th St and
Broadway. Walk to the Sundial, halfway between Broadway and
Amsterdam Avenue, and turn to your right. You will see the Butler
Library building's columned facade and inscriptions of great
authors (all dead white male authors, some have complained).
If you come from Amsterdam Avenue, enter through the 116th
Street gate to College Walk. You will see the Butler building on
your left.
If you arrive at West 114th Street between Broadway and
Amsterdam Avenue, you can enter either a gate by the Carman Hall
and Butler or another one closer to Amsterdam Avenue by the John
Jay Hall and Butler. Go around the corner and you will find the
main entrance.
The main campus entrance of the Butler building is usually the
only entrance open, except during the late evening and early
morning hours, when the study hall only is accessible through the
East entrance, near John Jay Hall.
Show your C.U.I.D. or library card to the guard, go up the main
staircase, take the right stairs one flight up. Should you need an
elevator, it is located on the West side of the building. Take the
right corridor after passing thorugh the check point. Turn to left
and you will find the elevator near public phones. There are two
more passenger elevators on the East side of the building.
The Reference Desk is located in Room 301. Some of reference
books will be also housed in the adjacent room (Room 310 [old
325]). Reference books will be moved from Stacks Level 6 to 310 in
May 2000.
Consult the floor plans of the Reference Dept. or inquire at the
Reference Desk to find the material you need. For more information,
call 854-2241, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through
Friday.
