About Butler Reserves

Butler Reserves holds approximately 10,000 volumes at any given time. It is the largest reserves collection in the entire Columbia University Library system. This collection is provided to support most undergraduate courses offered by Columbia College and General Studies, as well as some engineering courses, and most graduate courses in the humanities and history. Other CU libraries provide reserves in the subject fields they support.

Butler Reserves gives both undergraduate and graduate students access to the required and suggested readings for their courses. The Reserves collection is subject to short-term loans (usually of 2 hours) because of the heavy demand and the limited copies available. This is also the reason behind the $1/hour Reserves overdue fines.

Find out what is on Butler Reserves by checking CLIO under "Course Reserve" and searching by your instructor's name or course number.
