Whether you're looking for journal articles in Chinese, English, or other language, you may utilize the available tools and resources at Columbia, and try the general steps listed below.

You need to be aware that first, Columbia may not license the databases containing your specific journals. Second, the library keeps only journals of very recent years in site, old print journals are sent to offsite, but articles from offsite journals can be requested online; full texts of your requests will be made available for you to download. Lastly, more and more Chinese journals are being made available in full text in Greater China Area, the library will have more full-text e-resources in near future.

English/Western-language Journal Articles

1. Check the University Main Catalog CLIO for a possible electronic link.

2. Try the University's E-Journals list.

3. Use SFX Citation Finder
Use it to link from a useful record in a database to the full text of the article (if available) or to other options for obtaining that article. Please note that not all databases the library subscribes to are Citation Finder enabled/linked. You need to know that sometimes, Citation Finder may bring you back to the University Main Catalog CLIO without useful results.

4. Use Ulrich's International Periodicals
Select Title (Exact) from the drop down menu and type in the journal you're interested in. Assuming the journal shows up on the list, click the URL on the Basic Description tab. Alternatively, click on the Other Editions/Formats tab for Online Availability. Use Columbia University Libraries Databases to locate and open it.

5. Ask the librarian.

Chinese-language Journal Articles

1. Check China Academic Journals full-text database
It includes full-text journal articles of 1994 onward (most are retrospectively covered).

2. Check Century Journals Project database
If you're looking for journal articles published before 1994, this integrated database increasingly have journal articles published from its first issue through 1993.

3. Check the University Main Catalog CLIO to see if Columbia has subscribed the journal.
If you are looking for journal articles prior to early 1990's, you may request a full-text copy of the article to be sent to your e-mail inbox.

4. Check Quan guo bao kan suo yin or Zhonghua min guo qi kan lun wen suo yin.
Journals that cannot be found in North American libraries but found available in these two databases, full texts of the needed articles can be delivered from Shanghai Library or the National Library of China in Taiwan.

5. Ask the librarian.
