Nov. 5-7:  COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY TIBETAN BOOK DUPLICATE SALE!

Hundreds of duplicate Tibetan Studies titles, in Tibetan, Chinese and western languages. Modern and dpe-cha (traditional) formats. 

Hours: 10am-4pm on Thurs & Friday; 1-4pm on Saturday

 

Nov 6 (Fri): Kensaku Okawa, "Conflicted Histories: Representations of Traditional Tibetan Society"

12noon-1:30pm  SIPA Building 918. Visiting Scholar from Tokyo University.

Nov. 7:  Opening of "Postmarked Lhasa:  An Exhibit of Tibetan Stamps and Correspondence"

10:30-6pm; Latse Reading Room, Trace Foundation (132 Perry Street; Greenwich Village)

Opening day of this exhibit will feature talks by experts and scholars of Tibet’s postal history and letter-writing culture.  Exhibit is open until December 13.

Nov. 10:  Classroom Film Showing of Three Tibetan TV Comedy Sketches (1990s)

7:10-9:30pm  Kent Hall 522D; Columbia University.  Three episodes from the humorous TV series written by Phuntsog Tashi, and performed by Migmar, Thubten, Tashi Dondup, and others in Lhasa. Film is shown free-of-charge in conjuction with Dr. Robert Barnett's course, "Envisioning the Snowland." With English subtitles.

Nov. 17:  Classroom Film Showing of "Xizang Fengyun" (Tib. Bod-ljongs dus 'gyur) [Winds and Clouds over Tibet]  (episodes 1 and 25)

7:10-9:30pm  Kent Hall 522D; Columbia University.  The first and final episodes from this 25-part CCTV series, which offered a dramatized history of "liberation" and aired in the late 1990s.  Showing is free-of-charge and held in conjuction with Dr. Robert Barnett's course, "Envisioning the Snowland."  The Tibetan-language version will be shown, with English subtitles.

 

Nov. 19:  Dr. Paul Hackett (Columbia), talk on Guhyasamaja

Nov. 24:  Classroom Showing of Local Family TV Dramas (2001 and 2002)

7:10-9:30pm  Kent Hall 522D; Columbia University.  Two episodes of CCTV/Tibet TV productions will be shown: Lasa wangshi (= Lha sa’i sngon byung gtam rgyud) [Old times in Lhasa]; and Xiangwang Lasa (=Lha sar phyogs pa) [In the direction of Lhasa] The showing is free-of-charge and held in conjuction with Dr. Robert Barnett's course, "Envisioning the Snowland."  English subtitles.
