Archives/Transcript Sources

Vanderbilt Television News Archive has been videotaping the evening network news from 1968 to the present, and also videotapes special reports programming. Abstracts of the broadcasts can be searched, and tapes can be copied or compiled and loaned for researchers for a fee.

Library of American Broadcasting at the University of Maryland, College Park, contains primary source material related to the history of broadcasting in the United States, including papers of broadcasting pioneers, broadcast transcripts, film and video collections, and other materials. The web site contains a catalog that is searchable by keyword.

National Public Broadcasting Archives, at the University of Maryland, College Park, brings together the archival record of major entities of non-commercial broadcasting in the United States, as well as the personal papers of many contributors to public broadcasting.

FOOTAGE.net, a centralized commercial source for stock footage from both news and non-news sources, also includes the article, "Archival Survival", a guide to using film and stock footage archives.
