The Department of Energy's Office of Fissile Materials Disposition is involved in the effort to reduce the global nuclear danger associated with inventories of surplus weapons-usable fissile materials (highly enriched uranium and plutonium). The Office is developing strategies and implementing actions to: (1) provide a Department-wide storage configuration that is secure, environmentally sound, inspectable, and cost effective; and (2) eliminate surplus weapons-usable fissile materials in a manner that encourages reciprocal action abroad.

- The Peace Science Society (International), or PSS(I), encourages the development of peace analysis and conflict management. PSS(I) does not confine itself to ideas specific to peace research, but welcomes and utilizes relevant work of the social and natural sciences.

- Although its name and flexible structure permit it to conduct research on a wide range of issues related to Russian foreign and domestic policy, the Center is currently focused on international security, arms control, and nonproliferation issues that are directly related to Russia's internal situation.

- University of California Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC)
- IGCC was founded in 1983 as a multi-campus research unit serving the entire University of California (UC) system. In addition to its traditional work on arms control and proliferation, IGCC has expanded its research agenda to include several broad areas of inquiry: regional relations, international environmental policy, international relations theory, and the domestic sources of foreign policy.
