Note from the Original Curator of the Lehman
Suite
The Papers of Charles Poletti were presented to The Herbert H.
Lehman Papers School of International Affairs, Columbia University
by Charles Poletti in September, 1972.
This collection includes a completely documented panorama of
Charles Poletti's career, dating from his freshman year at
Harvard College. His family and personal papers, as well as his
official correspondence, illuminate his public service and provide
significant material for understanding his era.
Charles Poletti's long association with Herbert Lehman began
in 1933, when as a young lawyer he was recommended for appointment
as Counsel to the Governor by his friend and former professor,
Felix Frankfurter. The Papers are replete with material concerning
these friendships.
This generous donation to our archive adds another important
resource for the study of twentieth century American history.
William B.Liebmann
Curator
September, 1973
Charles Poletti has generously continued to donate material to
this archive, keeping his papers up-to-date as well as filling in
some gaps in the correspondence. Recent gifts have been both large
and important enough to necessitate this revised edition of this
checklist.
