Q. Can current issues of periodicals be checked out?
A. The unbound issues on the shelves in the Periodicals Reading Room cannot be checked out and must not leave the room. They are for use in the room only.

Q. How can I get photocopies of articles from the periodicals?
A. There is a copier available in the Copy Room in PMRR (See Floorplan) for photocopies of articles. The copier accepts Flex cards; it does not accept coins. Flex cards may be purchased in Butler Library, room 2L1 (across from the lounge).  Alternatively, patrons wishing to use the coin-operated photocopier in Butler Library, room 2L1, may take periodicals out of the room provided they leave photo identification with a PMRR staff member.

Q. Can I get change at the desk?
A. The desk attendants are not able to provide change or break bills.

Q. Can I make copies from microfilm and fiche? 
A. Yes, there are 16 microform reader/printers available for use. The machines accept Flex cards; they do not accept coins.  Flex cards may be purchased in Butler Library, room 2L1 (across from the lounge).  Copies are $0.10 per page and print on letter-sized paper.  Alternatively, patrons may scan microfilm or microfiche for free using the 2 scanning stations.

Q. Can I make copies from microcards and microprints?
A. Yes, there is a screen scan unit which will make copies from these older formats of microforms. The print quality is uneven, but patrons can get free copies when they use this machine.

Q. Can I get a duplicate made of an entire reel of microfilm?
A. Some microfilm can be duplicated.  Contact the Preservation Reformatting Department for more information.

Q. Do you have a particular newspaper or serial?

Q. Where can I get the full-text article that I found on the internet? Does the library always have the paper or the microfilm of the title?
A. Patrons should consult CLIO to see whether Columbia has a current subscription to the journal and the specific holdings for the title. See How to Search for Serials at PMRR.

Q. How can I find a microfilm that I used before? Unfortunately, I do not have a call number.
A. Nearly all microform call numbers can be found in CLIO. If the microform is not in CLIO, the call number can be found in the PMRR card catalog. Indexes may have to be used in conjunction with a call number to identify specific dates, series numbers, reel numbers etc. See also The Microform Collection.
