The Papers of James Grover McDonald
were presented to
The Herbert H. Lehman Papers of the School of
International Affairs
Columbia University
by Mrs. James Grover McDonald and her daughters,
Mrs. Halsey V. Barrett and Mrs. Archibald Stewart
James McDonald and Herbert Lehman had many similar
interests in their public service and in their
lifelong concerns for the welfare of their fellow
men. This archive reunites their own correspondence
and demonstrates their feelings of mutual respect.
However, in addition, this valuable gift which
includes all of Ambassador McDonald's papers endows
Columbia University with one of the great manuscript
reference sources on the question of refugees in our
modern world and on the foundation of the State of
Israel
