The U.S. Geological Survey has assessed resources of selected coal of the Tertiary Fort Union Formation and equivalent units in the Northern Rocky Mountains and Great Plains region. The assessment focused on those selected coal beds and zones in the Powder River, Williston, Hanna-Carbon, and Greater Green Valley Basins most likely to be utilized in the next few decades. In other basins Tertiary coal resources are summarized but not assessed.

The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) was developed by the USGS in cooperation with the U.S. Board on Geographic Names, the GNIS contains information about the proper names for places, features, and areas in the Nation. This information is available for the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and the territories and outlying areas of the U.S., as well as for Antarctica. The GNIS consists of four separate data bases: the National Geographic Names Data Base (NGNDB), the Antarctica Geographic Names Data Base (AGNDB), the National Topographic MapNames Data Base (NTMNDB), and the Reference Data Base (RDB).

Most years the U.S. Geological Survey makes over 50,000 stream discharge measurements. Over 75 percent of those measurements ar made by wading streams and using the velocity-area method. This PowerPoint presentation describes how stream discharge chould be measured when wading and using the velocity-area method. It is intended as a learning and reference tool for anyone responsible for making wading discharge measurements.

This digital map includes geology, geologic provinces and oil and gas fields of the African continent, and is first of a series produced by the USGS World Energy Project. The goal is to produce an assessment of the undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and gas resources of the world. Report 97-463 gives fuller discussion of the geologic provinces and their relative ranking. The world was divided into eight energy regions. Sub-Saharan Africa (Region 7) and the North Africa part of Region 2 are represented on this CD-ROM. The geology map for Africa was compiled and synthesized from 1:5,000,000 UNESCO geologic maps. Each region was divided into geologic provinces delineated using geologic, tectonic and offshore data from the UNESCO maps.

Contains a compilation of and geophysical, geologic, and tectonic data for the Russian Far East, Alaska, Canadian Cordillera, and adjacent offshore areas. The area of coverage extends from 120 degrees E to 115 degrees W, and from 40 degrees N to 80 degrees N.... This compilation provides basic data for studying the neotectonics of active and passive plate margins in this region, and also for studying the Mesozioc and Cenozioc collisional and accretionary tectonics that assembled the continental crust in this region.

This report describes time-domain electromagnetic soundings made in and near Everglades National Park to map saltwater intrusion. The data delineate the location of the freshwater/saltwater interface and provide information on the depth to the base of the Biscayne aquifer. The model results provide estimates of aquifer water quality. The report, which contains 82 pages of text and data, 70 figures, and 3 plates, describes data collection and data processing, and includes a discussion of the results. The time-domain electromagnetic data are provided in text form and as a binary database.

Contains processed and unprocessed digital high-resolution seismic-reflection and navigation data collected by the USGS in cooperation with the U.S. Dept. of Energy and the University of Texas. This expedition's purpose was to decipher the volume and distribution of methane hydrate contained in the ocean sediments of the Gulf Coast. The seismic-reflection data ae stored as SEG-Y standard format that can be read and manipulated by most seismic-processing software. The navigation data are stored as ASCII files, and previews of processed seismic profiles are available on the CD-ROM.

These geospatial data sets were produced as part of a regional precipitation frequency analysis for Oklahoma. The data sets consist of surface grids of precipitation depths for seven frequencies (expressed as recurrence intervals of 2-, 10-, 25-, 50-, 100-, and 500-years) and 12 durations (15-, 30-, and 60 minutes; 1-, 2-, 3-, 6-, 12-, and 24-hours; and 1-, 3-, 7-days). Eight-four depth-duration-frequency surfaces were produced from precipitation-station data. Precipitation-station data from which the surfaces were interpolated and contour lines derived from each surface are also included. Contour intervals vary from 0.05 to 0.5 inch... Contour lines dreived from these surfaces (grids) were used to produce the maps in "Depth-Duration Frequency of Precipation of Oklahoma," by R.L. Tortorelli, Alan Rea, and W.H. Asquith, U.S. Geological Survey Water Resources Investigations Report 99-4232.

This study is a cooperative report between the Ministerio de Minas e Energia and the Dept. of the Interior. It depicts the Brazilian Government structure, mineral legislation and investment policy, taxation, foreign investment policies, environmental laws and regulations, and conditions in which the mineral industry operates. The report underlines Brazil's large and diversified mineral endowment. A total of 37 mineral commodities, or groups of closely related commodities, is discussed. Two colored maps of Brazil (Tectono-Geological Map and Map Showing Major Deposits and Garimpos) prepared at 1:7,000,000 are included. The report is presented in English and Portuguese in PDF format.

This is an interactive CD-ROM that contains images, movies, and data of all the surveys the Pacific Seafloor Mapping Project has completed up to January 1999. The images and movies on this CD-ROM, such as shaded relief of the bathymetry, backscatter, oblique views, 3-D views, and QuickTime movies, help the viewer to visualize the multibeam data. This CD-ROM also contains ARC/INFO export (.e00) files and full-resolutoion TIFF images of all the survey sites that can be downloaded and used in many GIS packages.
