- A separate report containing data for establishments with payroll was
published for each State, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Each report
presents general statistics for establishments with payroll including number
of estabhishments, sales, payroll, and employment by varied retail
classifications. All statistics are presented for the State, metropolitan
areas, (MAs), counties, and places with 2,500 inhabitants or more. Greater
kind-of-business detail is shown for larger areas. For each State, the
District of Columbia, and the U.S. 1992 data are provided by kind of business
on sales and employees per establishment and sales and payroll per employee.
Comparative statistics showing percent changes in sales and payroll between
1987 and 1992 are shown by kind of business.

- This report includes number of establishments and sales by kind of
business for all establishments, establishments with payroll, and
establishments without payroll for the U.S. and States. Data on sales size of
establishments wthout payroll and the number of proprietorhips and
partnerships is also provided for the U.S. Also presented are statistics for
establishments without payroll inlcuding number of establishments and sales by
varied retail clasifications for MAs. Similar data for counties and places
with 2,500 inhabitants or more are available on electronic media only.

- The Selected Statistics report presents selected data for establishments
with and without payroll for 1992 and 1987 by kind of business. Data include
number of estaablishments, sales, payroll and employment, and selected ratios
and rankings. Data are presented for the U.S. as a whole and for States and
MA's.
