Columbia University Libraries Website Redesign
NEW YORK, August 10, 2005 In August 2005, Columbia University Libraries launched a new version of its website. The new Columbia University Libraries homepage is now available at http://www.columbia.edu/cu/lweb/index.html.

The redesigned website includes many new features, such as:
- A “QuickSearch” function provides a handy way to search CLIO, to find databases and e-journals, and to search the Libraries website; it is present on the homepage and persists throughout the website.

- Top and bottom “ribbon” navigation bars contain frequently used links, e.g., CU Home, Libraries Contacts, and Libraries Hours; they are present on the homepage and persist throughout the website.
- The main navigation bar uses roll-over menus to provide convenient access to a huge number of links; it is present on the homepage and persists throughout the website.
- The Course Reserves catalog and “My Library Account” are directly accessible from the main navigation bar.
- A “Site Index” provides a browsable A-Z list of links to the key pages in the Libraries website.
- News about the Libraries, including exhibitions and events, is presented with scrolling headlines that link to full-length news articles (on the homepage).
- A graphical “Spotlight” promotes important services and developments (on the homepage).
- A “Featured Resource” box describes significant electronic resources (on the homepage).
- The look and feel is more compatible with the Columbia University website.
We redesigned the website with the following goals in mind:
- create a clean, uncluttered design with an intuitive interface
- harmonize the design with the Columbia University website
- bring more functionality to the homepage
- emphasize useful functions and popular links
- de-emphasize the Libraries’ administrative structure
