Q: What is the Burke Library?
A: Burke Library is part of the Columbia University Libraries and is located
at Union Theological Seminary (Broadway & 121st Street - see
map). Its services and world renowned collections supporting the study
of Christian theology are available to those with a CU or Union ID.
Q: What can I find at Burke Library?
A: The Burke Library's emphasis is on biblical studies, church history, systematic
theology, and Christian ethics. It also contains strong holdings in homiletics
(preaching), sacred music, ecumenics and the history of missions. Burke has
books, journals, and special collections including rare books, manuscripts,
and archival materials. Use CLIO to find cataloged material in Burke.
Q: What if I'm not researching theology?
A: The collections are of great value to researchers of history, literature,
ethics, anthropology, philosophy, language, art history, and many other
fields. There is also a wonderful collection of rare materials and archives.
In addition, the third floor main Reading Room has available quiet study
space amidst inspiring architecture!
