Graduate Student Internship Program




(NEW YORK, March 21, 2008)
Columbia University Libraries is now accepting application for the Graduate Student Internship Program. Applications can be submitted through March 28, 2008 at noon.

The Columbia University Libraries Graduate Student Internship Program is designed to enrich graduate studies and professional training in primary sources through an introduction to archival work, supplemented with a program of lectures, workshops and tours.

 Highlights of the internship include:

  • Learning to uncover primary source collections relevant to one's research and to better understand the nature, origin and uses of primary sources.
  • One-on-one attention and guidance from Columbia University Libraries archivists.
  • Behind-the-scenes tours of Columbia University Rare Book and Special Collections Library, Avery Architectural & Fine Arts Library and the Burke Library at the Union Theological Seminary, among others.
  • Discussions by Columbia faculty and outside scholars on issues of privacy and confidentiality facing researchers, the creation of special collection libraries, and their own researching adventures in the archives.

 

Terms and Duration

  • Twelve internships are available
  • The internship lasts from June, 2008 through May, 2009
  • The rate of pay is $20/hour
