Purpose and Program Description
The Libraries seek to support the curricular and research
needs of the faculty, students and visiting scholars focusing on
China,. Students can obtain MA and Ph.D. degrees through the East
Asian languages and Cultures Department and the East Asian
Institute. The Institute is a federally supported Title VI
research center.

Overall, the Libraries’ existing collection, its current
acquisitions commitment, based upon available resources, and its
collecting goal for Chinese Studies are all at the research
level.

Specific Delimitations

Formats collected: We collect monographs, periodicals,
reference works, series, annuals, maps and newspapers
extensively, electronic tools, audio/visual materials, and
dissertations selectively while textbooks are excluded.

Imprint Dates Collected: We collect 19th and
20th century materials extensively and earlier
centuries selectively. We rely upon gifts for rare…

Chronological Focus: We collect materials from all
periods.

Languages Collected: We collect Chinese, Japanese, and
Korean language materials extensively and English, Western
European, and Russian language materials selectively.

Place of Publication: We collect materials published in
China, UK, Singapore, US, and Europe extensively and all others
selectively.
