In developing new information services to the science and engineering communities the Director will have the advantage of working with other key parts of the Information Services organization, including the Center for New Media Teaching and Learning, http://ccnmtl.columbia.edu/, the Center for Digital Research and Scholarship, http://www.columbia.edu/cu/lweb/cdrs/, the Copyright Advisory Program, http://www.columbia.edu/cu/lweb/copyright/, and the Libraries Digital Program. The Science and Engineering Libraries also work closely with the University’s Health Sciences Libraries, located on Columbia’s uptown campus.
The Science and Engineering Division has 6 FTE librarians, 5 FTE supervisors, and 11 FTE support staff and student workers. The Division’s annual materials budget is $5.2 million plus additional endowment funds. Currently Columbia has seven science and engineering libraries on the Morningside campus (Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Geology, Mathematics, Physics/Astronomy and Psychology) and a Geosciences Library at the Lamont Doherty campus. A new science library, combining Biology, Chemistry, Physics/Astronomy and Psychology, designed by Rafael Moneo, will open in the fall of 2010. This library will feature an in-depth online journal collection including all available digitized backfiles of relevant journal runs, a science information commons, and small, core print collections. The greater part of the science and engineering collections (with the exception of geology, geosciences and math) will be housed offsite at the ReCAP facility which Columbia developed with Princeton University and the New York Public Library. This now houses over 2.9 million of Columbia’s books.
One of the world's leading research universities, Columbia provides outstanding opportunities to work and grow in a unique intellectual community.
