Business Librarian
- Watson Library of Business and Economics -

Columbia University Libraries is seeking a librarian to head the Watson Library of Business and Economics.  The position provides leadership for reference instruction, outreach, and collection development for one of the nation’s largest academic business libraries.  The Business Librarian participates in the provision of reference and instructional services, is the primary library liaison to the faculty and administrations of the Columbia Business School and the Department of Economics, oversees the development of print and electronic resources to support teaching and research, and provides guidance in developing the expanding e-journal, e-book, and e-reference collections.  The Columbia Business School is ranked consistently as one of the top-10 Business Schools in the country.

Reporting to the Director of the Social Science Libraries, the Business Librarian will play a pivotal role in designing the library presence in a new Columbia Business School facility.  The position represents the Watson Library in national and international organizations and works closely with Social Science library colleagues to plan, design and implement information services and identifying new and changing user needs.

Required:  An ALA accredited M.L.S. or the equivalent combination of education and experience, advanced reference and collection development experience in an academic research library; experience using sophisticated business and economic numeric and statistical resources; demonstrated management and supervisory skills, ability to work in a service-focused; resource sharing and team-oriented environment and working knowledge of business and economics electronic resources. Reading knowledge of at least one Western European language.

Preferred:  Second masters degree in the social sciences; demonstrated leadership experience; excellent presentation and communication skills.
