Bhavik Nathwani receives Grant-In-Aid of Research (GIAR) from Sigma Xi

Mechanical Engineering graduate student, Bhavik Nathwani, has received a Grant-in-Aid of Research (GIAR) award from the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. The GIAR program awards grants to graduate students to purchase non-standard laboratory equipment necessary to complete a specific research project.
Bhavik’s research focuses on studying structures of mammalian neurons using superresolution microscopy. This Sigma Xi grant would enable implementation of add-ons to improve the system throughput many fold over the current setup, according to Bhavik. Professor Jung-Chi Liao in Mechanical Engineering and Professor Rafael Yuste in Biological Sciences are jointly mentoring this project. “Bhavik’s excellent work has enabled advanced understanding in multiple disciplines, including the studies of structures and dynamics of neurons. This award is great encouragement in recognizing Bhavik’s research accomplishment“, says Professor Liao.
