Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Columbia University is home
to such diverse activities as biomechanics, mechanics of materials,
fluid mechanics, heat transfer, control, manufacturing, energy systems,
MEMS, and nanotechnology.
The department offices and laboratories are housed within the first and
second floors of the S. W. Mudd Building on Columbia's Morningside
campus. We have recently added new laboratories in the areas of
nanotechnology, optical nanostructures, and fracture and crack
mechanics, as well as new facilities in the fields of robotics and
automation and control.
The undergraduate program is ABET accredited and allows students to
take electives within the department, at Columbia College, and in the
School of Engineering and Applied Science. Students at all levels are
encouraged to participate in our cutting-edge research labs, and to
join clubs such as the ASME, Solar-Splash, SAE, and AIAA.
