Letter From the Chair
We are a small department with an undergraduate student-faculty ratio of less than 10 to 1. Our faculty is dedicated to teaching excellence, and many of them have won prestigious teaching awards. Most faculty members have an open-door policy to facilitate student-faculty interactions. Cutting-edge research not only provides an excellent training ground for graduate students but also provides ample opportunity for undergraduate involvement. We highly value student feedback, and hold regular town-hall meetings to obtain student feedback for continuous improvement. One of our philosophies in teaching and research is to emphasize both breadth and depth. Being a professional unit within a comprehensive university, our broadly based curriculum prepares students not only for a successful career in engineering but also for going on to consulting, medical and law school, and other fields. The curriculum is solidly based on in-depth treatments of quantitative materials. We value both theory and practice, with many hands-on opportunities carefully designed to seamlessly combine the two. Our program is rigorous, yet allows the flexibility to take electives. We also promote team spirit and foster a strong sense of community to make students feel at home.
I encourage you to visit our Web site and browse through it for more information. I trust you will find our program interesting and unique.
