work together to fulfill our academic mission.
Our faculty members strive to provide outstanding teaching, cutting-edge
research, effective mentoring of students, active improvement of curricular
programs, service to the university and effective leadership in professional
societies. Together our bachelors,
masters and doctoral students form a dynamic community that distinguishes
itself both in and outside the classroom, with many of our graduates achieving
positions of leadership in society. Additionally, we value collegiality and
teamwork amongst all our constituents and continue to be rewarded by the
support of our dedicated alumni.
The Mechanical Engineering Department strives to promote creativity, initiative and independent thinking within our student body. Our curriculum emphasizes breadth and depth coupled with theory and practice, forming a rigorous academic program that is dedicated to maintaining the Ivy League prestige. Additionally, the numerous benefits that come from being located in the cultural hub that is New York City considerably enhance the life experience of our students. At Columbia, we prepare students for successful careers in mechanical engineering while also aiming to provide the foundation for a broader set of career paths.
