Rumors Fly: AcIS and AIS to be Audited
  By Joe Olivares

At several ESC meetings this semester rumors have flown around that AcIS is to be audited. "They are definitely going to be audited," Student Senator Jason Lehmbeck replied when asked to confirm the reports. Senator Lehmbeck sits on the Student Senate Committee on Academic Computing Affairs and has given reports in the last month that suggest AcIS and AIS will be facing a complete review of its services and internal matters. "They are going to bring in their people to do it, " he said in reference to who will be conducting the assessment of Columbia's computing departments. "There is somebody who will report to us on what is going on during the process," he added as to the nature of how the audit will proceed. It is well documented that the ESC has been a major voice for complaints against AcIS which manages all student computing services, but AIS, which controls administrative computing, has very little dealings with undergraduates except with the everyday use of library terminals.
