Directions to the International Affairs Building:

The MPA Program in Environmental Science and Policy is located on the 14th floor (room 1408) of the International Affairs Building of Columbia University in the City of New York at the southeast corner of 118th St. and Amsterdam Avenue. It lies in Section F on the Morningside Campus map. Our address is 420 West 118th Street, New York, NY 10027. Our phone number is 212-854-3142. The Columbia Campus can be reached as follows: By air La Guardia, the airport closest to Manhattan, is about a $20 taxi fare to the campus. As a much cheaper alternative, the M60 bus begins at La Guardia airport and comes to Columbia's main gate. For those coming into John F. Kennedy or Newark airport, bus service is available to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Taxi service from these two airports should be approximately $30-$40.

By public transportation The campus of Columbia University is located at 116th Street and Broadway in Manhattan, SIPA's Building is on Amsterdam Ave and 118th Street. It is best to travel to Columbia by public transportation. Train service in New york arrives at Grand Central Station or Pennsylvania Station; bus service arrives at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. From any of these points, you can take public transportation or a taxi north to the campus. Five bus line (M4, M5, M11, M60, M104) and one subway line (the Broadway #1 and #9 locals) service Columbia and the Morningside Heights area. If you find yourself on the Broadway #2 express or #3 express, be sure to change to the #1 or #9 local train at 96th Street. The Columbia stop is 116th Street. Taxis from midtown will cost approximately $10, and a taxi from the 125th Street Metro-North station line (Harlem and Hudson division) will take about 10-15 minutes and cost about $6.

By car Metered parking spaces (one-hour limit) on Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue are generally filled before 9 a.m. and continue to be so throughout the day, but are more available after 5 p.m. Other on-street parking on Riverside Drive, Claremont Avenue, and crosstown streets in the Columbia neighborhood is subject to Manhattan's alternate-side-of-the-street parking rules, under which spaces must be vacated for stipulated intervals for street cleaning before they may be reoccupied legally. The two parking garages closest to the Morningside campus are on West 122nd Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue, and on West 120th Street, near Riverside Church.

Recommended routes for driving to Columbia

Southward (from Connecticut, Westchester, The Bronx) (a) Coastal route. Take I-95 and follow the signs for the George Washington Bridge and Cross-Bronx Expressway to the Henry Hudson Parkway. Proceed south on the parkway to the West 125th Street exit. From West 125th Street, turn left under the Riverside Drive viaduct and proceed to Amsterdam Ave, then turn right (south) and drive to West 118th Street. (b) Interior route. Take the Merritt or Bronx River Parkway south to the Cross-County Parkway and proceed to the Henry Hudson Parkway. Continue as described above. (c) West route. Take the Saw Mill River Parkway south to the Henry Hudson Parkway and continue as described above.

Westward (from Queens, Nassau, Suffolk)
Follow the Grand Central Parkway past LaGuardia Airport to the Triborough Bridge. Exit from the right lane for Manhattan tollbooths, then proceed to the East 125th Street exit. Turn right onto East 125th Street and continue west across Manhattan to Broadway; turn left and proceed to West 116th Street.

Northward (from New Jersey)
Take the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) north to Exit 18, the George Washington Bridge. Exit the bridge immediately onto the Henry Hudson Parkway and
proceed south to the West 125th Street exit. Continue as described above (a).

Eastward (from New Jersey and Pennsylvania)
Follow Route 80 east to the George Washington Bridge. Continue as described above (a).
